I began shepherding shortly after moving to the rolling foothills of the Berkshire Mountains. Sheep are well adapted to this land, and provide incredible nourishment from an environment that is far less forgiving for edible vegetables. These creatures were lovingly raised by me, rotated across verdant pastures and nestled into a cozy cottage for the winter. A couple of years into the adventure, I began having the skins tanned, to fully honor and create a lasting gift from the animals' sacrifice for nourishment. These skins are organically tanned and incredibly special. Each animal was loved to the last moment, the skins carefully cleaned, and the wool picked through, by me; they were then tanned by the incredible folks at Vermont Natural Tanning. The tanners are artists, carefully working each skin to preserve it for a lifetime of use, and artfully finessing the finish of the fleece by bringing the natural personality of the wool (and the animal) to life. No two skins are alike and you feel their reverence for the animals in their work. These are quietly luxurious, one of a kind pieces that will provide you with a lifetime of comfort and enjoyment.
